Silicon carbide plunger rod

CORESIC® SP silicon carbide plunger rod is formed by dry bag isostatic pressing and pressureless sintering. Multi-angle drilling,keywaying, inner and outer diameter and end face finish can be carried out according to customer requirements, and five-axis processing can be carried out to meet the different design needs of users.

  • CORESIC® SP silicon carbide plunger rods can be drilled, keyway processed, and inner and outer diameters and end faces finished (including curved surfaces).

  • CORESIC® SP silicon carbide plunger rods can provide rough blanks with a machining accuracy of 0.1mm; they can also provide finished products with a machining accuracy of 0.001mm and a surface roughness of Ra of 20nm.

  • CORESIC® SP silicon carbide plunger rods are subjected to strict density, size, surface fluorescence penetration and surface microstructure inspections.

  • CORESIC® SP silicon carbide plunger rod material has a density of 3.15g/cm3, a Vickers hardness of more than 23GPa, and high wear resistance.

These rods are made from a combination of silicon and carbon, which are bonded together through a process called chemical vapor infiltration (CVI). The resulting material is a composite that exhibits superior strength, durability, and heat resistance compared to traditional materials like steel and aluminum.

Main Properties of CORESICe Silicon Carbide
CORESIC® SiC provides a full range of exceptional properties including high thermal conductivity, extreme hardness and high strength, virtually universal corrosion resistance makes it an ideal material for anticorrosion and heat exchanging equipment and an excellent alternative to other traditional materials such as metal, glass, enamel, graph­ite, PTFE etc. 
CORESIC® SiC is a polycrystalline alpha type silicon carb ide produced by pressureless sintering process of submicron silicon carbide powder in a proper forming process of extrusion, dry pressing or isostatic pressing. The controlled sin­tering process results in self-bonded fine grain, homogeneous micro-structure sic products which is more than 95% dense, with no traces of free silicon.
Extreme hardness, high dense and low porosity: CORESIC® SiC is 50% harder than tungsten carbide, and more than 95% dense. CORESIC® SiC has super abrasion resistance and complete impermeab山ty, even under extreme high temperature and pressure, which permits the medium passing through pipes at high speed. Extreme hardness also means no contaminating to the medium in high purity applications.

Excellent thermal conductivity: The thermal conductivity of CORESIC® SiC is nearly similar to impregnated graphite commonly used in chemical equipment, and is much higher than other materials, twice of tantalum alloy, 5 times of stainless steel, 10 times of Hastelloy, 15 times of enamel.

Excellent thermal shock resistance: Due to the excellent thermal conductivity, consistently low thermal expansion coefficientandminimizinginternaltemperaturegradient,CORESIC®SCi hasexcellentthermalshockresistanceand can be more adaptable to the rapid heat cycling than other materials.
• Temperature stability: The mechanical properties such as bending strength, modulus of elasticity, toughness of CORESIC® SiC hardly change with temperature, from close to absolute zero up to 1700°C, that is not suitable for
other materials.
• Extremely universal high corrosion resistance in acidic, alkali, basic media and oxidants -even at high temperatures.

CORESIC® SP Silicon Carbide
• CORESIC® SP SiC can be used to produce plates, blocks, headers, tubesheet and other complex shapes by isostatic forming process.
• By using advanced high temperature ceramic welding technology, manufacturing high-value and complex SiC components and modules has been reality.
• Single plate size up to 600*300mm, and the groove width minimum to 0.5mm.
• Single block diameter up to DN500mm.
• Tubesheet size up to diameter 500mm.
CORESICe SE Silicon Carbide
CORESICe SE tubes,formed by extrusion process, length can up to 4000mm, used as heat exchanger and microreactor tubes. Upto now, several standard dimensions of tubes have been suppied to markets, more customized dimensions can be also developedaccording to customer requirements.

Applications in Traditional Condensers & Heaters 
•    CORESIC® SE tubes combined with CORESIC® SP t ubesheet can be assembled int o tube and shell heat exchanger, which can reach a heat conductivity up to 2000W/m2•K.
•    Block heat exchanger equipped with CORESIC® SP SiC blocks, can be used at high operating pressure 20bar and temperature up to 250°(respectively, that greatly expands the scope of application of SiC heat exchanger
•    Heater & condenser, equipped with CORESIC® SE and CORESIC® SP SiC components, have been successfu lly applied to many harsh environments with strong acid, alkalis or complex acid and alkalis, an ideal alternative to heat exchang ers equipped with tra­ditional materials of graphite, alloy, glass and PTFE etc. S小con carbide heat exchanger has higher heat transfer efficiency with fairly less heat transfer area. 
Application in New Microreactor 
•    Tubes made of CORESIC® SE SiC can be assembled into tubular microreactors.
•    Plates or modules made of CORESIC® SP SiC, an ideal alternative to glass, can be assembled into plate microreac­tors.
•    An integrated ceramic-welded SiC tubular/plate microreactor made of CORESIC® SE and SP SiC, can be operated at temperature and pressure up to 250°C and up to 30bar respectively
